These services, for a fee, provide public information of an individual (derived from many public records databases), based on their phone number, which you provide. It’s a great way to (legally) find background info on a spouse, an ex-, a current lover, your boss, or anyone else!

Our staff ordered the service (they “investigated” themselves by entering their current cell phone number) and found their records were, for the most part, up to date or very close.
Some information was dated (more than 6 months old).
However, the data was very thorough (one individual’s report included basic info on a bankruptcy filing. A bankruptcy filing is always public information, and no private information was included in the report).
Note: $14.95 gets you one report, but $39.95 gets you one report plus 1-year access to Reverse Phone Detective’s “Members only” pages. Here you’ll have access to some VERY powerful research tools to investigate an individual.
We looked up Reverse Phone Detective on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) site, and they have a clean record (e.g., they do not have many customer complaints, and they have been in business since 2006). Their few complaints were resolved to the BBB.org’s satisfaction.
